Begin with the application
Start with where the stone will be installed: a courtyard, interior floor, pool surround, wall or step. Ask about the exact stone and finish combination for that use. Appearance alone does not establish technical suitability.
Natural surfaces
A natural finish retains more of the stone’s original surface character. It brings visible texture and variation to a design. Compare current samples to understand the range of relief, colour and thickness available.
Honed surfaces
Honing produces a flatter, smoother appearance with a restrained sheen. It can highlight the colour of the stone in a different way from a natural surface. Review the material under lighting similar to the intended space.
Brushed finishes
Brushing changes the tactile feel of the surface while retaining natural character. Finishes can be combined, such as tumbled and brushed. Use the complete finish name in your enquiry and confirm it against a sample.
Tumbled edges and surfaces
Tumbling softens the visual character of edges and surfaces. The result can suit a relaxed courtyard or traditional setting. Agree the edge appearance, joint width and laying pattern with your installer.
Confirm performance separately
For wet, exterior or demanding applications, request relevant information for the specific stone, finish and thickness. Discuss installation, sealing and maintenance with the project team. Confirm the final specification before ordering.
